A little bit about me and my journey…..
Maryam Riaz – BA (Hons), MA (Psychological Therapies) PG Cert Counselling and Interpersonal Skills and PG Dip Counselling and Psychotherapy.
MBACP – (Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
Psychotherapist, Supervisor and University lecturer – teaching counselling/psychotherapy and mental health.
I have experience of working with a wide range of clients, presenting with different mental health problems and clinical severity from across a range of health and social care settings, including hospitals, community mental health and primary care.
I am passionate about my counselling and psychotherapy service, I believe counselling should be accessible to all as it can genuinely improve lives. I work with clients from different cultural backgrounds, different ages and abilities, different religions and with people of no religion or belief.
I had seen and experienced the inequalities in counselling and mental health services and I wanted to make a difference. My counselling service ‘Therapy for You with Maryam Riaz’ was started to help bridge the gap in mental health inequalities. I am the first South Asian female therapist and supervisor to open a counselling service in Bradford City Centre offering counselling in English, Urdu and Punjabi.
Through my work I have contributed to raising awareness of mental health inequalities, offering transcultural models of therapy and worked with organisations to develop culturally sensitive counselling and mental health support.
I hope my work and research continues to inspire others and help bridge the gap in mental health inequalities.
Healing can be a journey – ‘Therapy For You with Maryam Riaz’ can help you on life’s journey.
